Joanie San Chirico
Toms River, New Jersey
I have a new studio! My old studio was in an enclosed sun porch that was freezing
in the winter and really hot in the summer. This studio is bright and open. I
have a 14- by 3-foot closet with its doors covered with acoustical soundboard
that acts as a design wall on which work can be pinned up. Inside, I have storage
bins that can rolled out when needed, a unique tiered storage system for finished
work, and a commercial print bin for papers and my portfolios. In the alcove near
the closet sits my Epson Pro 7800 printer in its own perfect space. I also have
a sitting area to reflect on the work in progress or just to read.
For inspiration, I mainly take my own photos, cut pictures out of magazines,
or look out the window at the view—one of the best parts of my studio. I
look out to a beautiful wooded area, with occasional visits from deer and other
wildlife. I live in Central New Jersey, ten minutes from the beach, and about
an hour and a half to either Philadelphia or New York City for museum and gallery
immersion.
