My studio space is a loft above the living/dining room of our home. It has enough room for my office, sewing machine, and a design wall. I work at my desk (when doing design) and at my sewing machine, which is set up on a portable SewEzi table that overlooks a mountain view. The view out the windows opposite my loft space is stupendous! I have a portable storage system next to the sewing machine that contains all necessarily sewing materials (threads, scissors, rotary cutters, pins, fusible web, an iron, rulers, basting spray, etc.). I’ve organized the loft to maximize the space available; most of the closet space is filled with my stash (in plastic containers sorted by fabric color), other art materials (in plastic storage containers), and a collection of books.
My inspiration is a series of photographs of a favorite pet bird and myself. This little one was a special friend and used to sit on my shoulder when I would hand-quilt and sew on bindings, walk around laid-out fabric pieces when he wanted attention, or try to steal pins when I wasn’t looking. |
