Fiberarts Studios Contest

Laura Granlund
Chicago, Illinois

I work out of a room in my apartment here in Chicago. When not at my studio, I am working as a visual coordinator for Claire’s Inc. I really try to stay organized, especially when there is more than one project occurring at the same time. My way of thinking is, “The state of your room is the state of your mind.”

Brightly colored objects appeal to my eye and give me energy while I’m working. Music is in the air—it’s always on when I’m in there—and definitely a major inspiration to me. On my walls are illustrations and paintings that I have made along with some pieces from other artists, including my father. My favorite aspect of my studio is the fact that everywhere I look I’m reminded of how great it is to be able to express myself in so many limitless ways, and I am so grateful for that!
