Contest Official Rules
SUMMARY. Entrants will create fiber-postcard valentines of their own original creation and submit them to Interweave, publisher of Fiberarts. The valentines will be pre-addressed and pre-stamped by the entrants and will be re-mailed by Interweave Press from the United States Post Office in Loveland, Colorado, which will add its own cancellation and poem to the valentines. Before being re-mailed, the valentines will be judged and photographed for publication in Fiberarts magazine and website. Prizes will be awarded to four winning entries selected by the judges as described below.
FORMAT. Each valentine must be configured according to the specifications on the web page, including the full mailing address of the addressee and sufficient postage. The United States Postal Service is responsible for applying the cancellation mark and poem to each valentine placed in the mail at the Loveland post office.
CONTEST SPONSORS. The contest is conducted by Interweave Press LLC, 201 East Fourth Street, Loveland, CO 80537-5655, publisher of Fiberarts and other publications. The contest is sponsored by Jacquard Products/Rupert, Gibbon & Spider Inc. (PO Box 425, Healdsburg, CA 95448.  442-0455; www.jacquardproducts.com) and New England Felting Supply (84 Cottage St., Easthampton, MA 01027.  527-1188; www.feltingsupply.com).
HOW TO ENTER. No purchase is necessary to enter the contest. Entries will be accepted only by mail, postage prepaid, sent to Interweave, 201 East Fourth Street, Loveland, CO 80537-5655. Valentines must be mailed to Interweave Press in a stamped and addressed envelope. Only complete, appropriate and timely entries from eligible entrants will be accepted.
ENTRY DEADLINE. All entries must be received by Interweave Press by January 15, 2009.
ELIGIBILITY. The contest is open to adults who are 18 years of age or older and legally residing in the United States or Canada or their territories and possessions as of the day of entry. Employees, vendors, and agents of Interweave Press and its advertisers, sponsors, and related companies and their immediate families are not eligible.
WINNERS. Four winners will be selected by contest judges, who will be members of the staff of Interweave Press and respective category sponsors, from all complete and timely entries received from eligible entrants. If a winner selected by the judges is determined to be ineligible for any reason, another winner will be selected in his or her place. Winners will be judged on: (a) concept originality and (b) innovative or exceptional use of materials and/or technique, and (c) the additional factors set forth below for Felt Challenge #1 and #2. All decisions of the judges shall be made in their sole and absolute discretion and will be final. Winners will be announced in a future print and/or website issue of Fiberarts. Interweave Press, at its discretion, may also announce and promote the contest and its winners in other print and electronic publications of Interweave Press and the advertising, publicity, promotional, and marketing materials of Interweave Press. The prizes will be awarded to eligible winners as described in these contest rules by March 1, 2009. Winners will be notified at the address provided by February 11, 2009.
PRIZES. Four winning entries will be selected by the judges, one winning entry in each of the four categories described below, and the entrants will receive the prizes described below. Prizes will be mailed at the expense of Interweave Press to the winners at the addresses provided by the winning entrants. The winners are solely responsible for payment of taxes that may be imposed by reason of the prizes awarded to him/her. All prizes will be awarded.
The Jacquard Prize Awards:
First Place Prize: A basket full of a variety of Jacquard products including brushes, transfer paper, a Jacquard Screen Printing Kit, one pound soda ash, a Mehndi Kit, Cast Away Stamp-Pad and re-inker, Lumiere metallic paints, Neopaque paints, Textile Colors, Dye-Na-Flow Silk Paints, Procion Dyes, extra large writing brush set, Silk Colors Kit, Inkjet Print on Cotton, Ink Jet Print on Silk, Acid Dyes, acid and Procion dye charts.
Runner-up Prize: A smaller array of Jacquard products including a Halo/Jewel Exciter Pack, Textile Color Exciter Pack, Dye-Na-Flow Exciter Pack, Stenciling Techniques on Fabric with Diane Ericson DVD, extra large writing set of brushes.
The New England Felting Supply Prize Awards:
Felt Challenge #1: Wet Felting Prize: For most creative use of a reflective material incorporated into felt (must be entirely wet felted with no needlefelting). Prize: 20-color Short-fiber Merino Batting (about 1 pound) plus 27-color pack of Prefelt Squares
Felt Challenge #2: Needlefelting Prize: For most creative interpretation of a famous painting judged on (a) accuracy of reproduction and (b) innovative point of view
Prize: the needlefelting book Animal Felt by Birgitte Krag Hansen.
GENERAL RULES. Interweave Press disclaims any responsibility or liability due to the non-receipt of entries owing to circumstances beyond its control, including but not limited to late delivery or non-delivery. Interweave Press will use its reasonable best efforts to place valentines into the U.S. mail after receipt, photography, and judging but disclaims any responsibility or liability for acts or omissions of the United States Postal Service or any third parties.
Entrants must satisfy all eligibility requirements before being selected as a winner and receiving a prize.
All personal information collected by Interweave Press from entrants will be kept in confidence and used for purposes of judging only, except that (a) the name, likeness, and city of residence of winners may be announced, advertised, promoted, and publicized by Interweave Press and category sponsors.
By entering the contest, each entrant is granting to Interweave Press the perpetual, exclusive, and royalty-free right to (a) photograph and reproduce the entry in the various print and electronic publications of Interweave Press and the advertising, publicity, promotional, and marketing materials of Interweave Press and category sponsors in any and all media, and (b) use her or his name, image, likeness, and biographical data for all of the foregoing purposes.
By entering the contest, entrant is assuring Interweave Press that (a) all entries are the sole and original work of the entrant and contain no matter created or contributed to by third parties or requiring the consent or approval of any third party, and (b) entrant meets all eligibility requirements and possesses the right to make the promises and give the assurances as described in these contest rules without the consent or approval of any third party, and Interweave Press is entitled to rely on entrant’s right to do so.
As a condition of eligibility, the winning entrants may be required to sign and return an agreement in a form satisfactory to Interweave Press by which each entrant formally attests to her or his eligibility and compliance with these rules and consents to the use of her or his name, image, likeness, and biographical data as described above. If requested to do so, the failure to sign and return the form will disqualify the entrant.
By entering the contest, the entrant releases Interweave Press and its affiliates, subsidiaries, shareholders, directors, officers, employees and agents, and all others associated with the development and execution of the contest, from any and all liability from injury, loss, or damage of any kind relating in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from any aspect of entrant’s participation in the contest.
The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
